Code of Honor Book 2 in the Code series Mark Williams is a former Marine who needs a temporary, just for show bodyguard simply to ease his father's mind. He hires Julie Jameson, a beautiful young woman who looks nothing like a bodyguard even though her resume indicates she’s tough as nails. She's the perfect candidate. but he's got a few demands of his own. First on that list he can take his own damn bullets. Julie doesn’t like being told she was hired because of her looks, or that she isn't allowed to do her job. She is not just an overpriced escort with a gun, she’s good at what she does. Except as things heat up and it becomes obvious to both of them that the threat is real, Mark treats her more like part of the team despite his obvious desire to protect her. And he never treats her as an escort, despite the fact that she really starts regretting that particular clause in the contract. Together they face explosions, flying bullets, injuries and judgement, all the while dealing with a safehouse full of her brothers, multiple government agencies trying to work together, old friends and older secrets. The only thing either of them is sure about is that if they both survive, they aren’t letting go. All they have to do is make sure that happens.

"Just remember, kiddies that need babysitters often do whatever the hell they want and worry about the punishment later." ~ Julie~So as you can tell.. the back and forth banter is one of the great points of the story. The way that Julie and Mark throw little quips back and forth through out the entire book is great. I love when a book can be completely serious one moment, have you all tied up in knots a split second later, and laughing the very next instant. This book covers that an so very much more.
I could give you a brief over view of the book, but that's what the blurb is for, so I am just going to continue with my feelings and thoughts on the story itself. J.R. Bryce does a wonderful job of developing the characters. She allows us to see the strong protective side of Julie, but she also gives us that glimpse of her softer side which allows her to be all woman. The way that she takes a complex character with many angles and gives her such a great balance is astounding. Not only do we get that development in Julie, but J.R. Bryce gives each of her characters the different angles to which they fall into place through out the different situations of the story.
Now, the suspense of the book is off the charts. I kept wondering what was going to take place next. And, just when thought I had it figured out, she throw another curve ball at you and continues to keep you in the dark so to say. I spent the entire book wondering what was going to take place next, and even in the end I was still going.. I want more.
Now.. I will leave you with one last thing, and it is not bad, but this story covers a lot, so make sure you allow yourself some time to thoroughly sit and read. The book is a bit long, but there is so much happening that you find yourself wanting to see what is going to happen next. And of course the sexy alpha male who is totally dominating doesn't help. Add into the mix all the other strong males and you are gonna find yourself drooling. So with that being said.. here is my last little bit to leave you with.... "And don't think that I can't find creative ways to punish you if you push it. You will not hurt yourself for me." ~Mark~

Code of Honor Volume 2 JR Bryce Books Reviews
This is book # 2 in the Code series. For full understanding and enjoyment, I recommend reading the series books in order. This book can be read as a standalone, but why just enjoy one book when you can enjoy more?
Mark meets Julie when she is hired to protect him. He is upset about this and makes it known that he does not wish her to take a bullet meant for him. His father has already been injured and he refuses to be responsible for another life.
Julie wants to be accepted as she is. All the men she has dated in the past have never understood that she could take care of herself, much less another. She has also never found anyone who could turn her on by just looking at her. That is until Mark.
While they discover so much so fast - and lets be honest this book moves quick, life and death situations tend to - about one another, they also fall as quickly as they discover each other. I found myself rooting from them almost from the get go. Their personalities and lives seemed to go together perfectly.
Julie accepts everything about Mark almost overnight, and he finds himself blinded by the light that is her. I thought that their honesty and sexy times were what makes it work so well.

“He remembered every face, every person he’d killed, every person he’d failed to keep alive until the medic got there.”
Which meant when faced with hiring security, Mark Williams didn’t want any part of it. He was not going to have anyone hurt or killed protecting him. Hiring Julie Jameson seemed the best option – she looked nothing like a bodyguard plus their arrangement meant she was out of the line of fire. Of course, things don’t always go as planned and when s**t gets real, they each see the other for who they really are…
“Her spitfire attitude and headstrong willpower had completely won him over.”
Julie was beautiful but Mark soon realized she was much, much more than a pretty face.
“That’s one scary woman. Where’d you find someone like her, anyway?” …
“She just walked into my hotel room one day.” …
“I’m never staying at a hotel again in my life.”
Julie was beautiful, for sure, but she also was a woman who could take care of herself and those around her in any situation. I loved how capable and strong she was as she won Mark over with her no-nonsense approach to each increasingly harrowing situation. She took each setback or challenge in stride and met them head on with purpose and smarts that either impressed you or pi**ed you off, depending on who’s side you were on.
At the same time, Mark was also one of the few to see her vulnerabilities. And she had them, in spades, if anyone cared to look for them. While Julie was determined to keep him safe he vowed to do the same for her. That included trying to shield her from those who were determined to kill them both as well as acting as a buffer between her and her loving, but forceful, family. They have lots of opportunity to see the many sides to each other as they fight arm and arm while struggling to keep one step ahead of the bad guys.
A plot birdwalk or two had me puzzled, not sure how they really fit with the characters, but the writing was excellent and the story twisty and full of emotion and action. Julie’s brothers have me beyond intrigued – infuriating but sexy and protective - yah, what’s not to like? Yes, let’s start with Josh!
